UC Davis 3rd Annual Pro/Am, Sep 25th

Mark your calendars for the  3rd Annual Aggie Pro/Am which will be held on Saturday, September 25th .  As most of you know it is a chance to play doubles with a current or former men's or women's Aggie and support the program at the same time.  Please join us for a fun-filled day of tennis, food and prizes!  

Harley English Tennis Festival, Oct 2nd

Date: Saturday, October 2, 2010, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Location: Marya Welch Tennis Center, UC Davis campus
Cost: $20 per player (includes refreshments & a towel imprinted with the festival logo)
Deadline to register: Friday, September 24

This community festival welcomes all adult men’s, women’s and mixed doubles teams from both the campus and community-at-large. Teams will be matched by NTRP playing level, and festival organizers will arrange teams for players without a partner.

Professor Emeritus Harley English (1911-2010) was widely referred to as the “dean” of retired UC Davis faculty and staff tennis players during his active playing days. Harley retired from the game at the youthful age of 93. In his later years of playing, he won several national championships for his age group.

In the past the festival has been limited to players age 50 and up. This year, the UC Davis Tennis Club joined the UC Davis Retiree Center as a sponsor of the event, and the planning committee expanded eligibility to include all players age 18 and up.

Each year, the festival recognizes one or more persons in the community who have contributed significantly to the game of tennis at the community level. This year’s honoree is Paul Ochs, who recently retired from his position as the coach of the Davis High School girls’ tennis team. During Ochs’ 34 years of coaching, the team won seven Sac-Joaquin Section titles and participated in another 17 section finals.
